about

The Nonce was a hip-hop duo from Los Angeles that was active in the 1990s (releasing material from 1992 to 1999). As part of the Project Blowed Collective, the duo - consisting of Yusef Afloat and Nouka Basetype (now known as Sach) - developed a reputation for smooth, jazzy production, complemented by laid-back, smart rhymes, paying homage to the Old School emcees they grew up listening to in the mid-1980s.

In 1992, the duo released its first single, “The Picnic Song.” The group fit in between spaces made by other artists such as the Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, and A Tribe Called Quest, but it was to be nearly two more years, until the duo would release its classic single, “Mix Tapes,” in 1994.

Upon the untimely death of Yusef in 2000, Sach released stellar solo material "Seven Days To Engineer" (1998), "Suckas Hate Me" (2000), "Sach 5th Ave." (2005) and his most recent album "fIDELITY" (2016) via HIT+RUN. Sach has also produced beats for numerous Los Angeles underground hip-hop luminaries such as Global Phlowtations, Ganjah K, Medusa, Freestyle Fellowship and many more.

HIT+RUN has repressed The Nonce's underground LA hip-hop classic "Mix Tapes" (featuring original single artwork) as a one-song limited-edition rectangular picture-disc lathe cut [HNR92]. Available in 3-color blue, gold or teal versions, each of these collector's items was hand-screenprinted by HIT+RUN in a strictly limited-run of 75qty made.
